Family photos don’t have to be stressful they can actually be fun with the right Photographer.

I offer relaxed family photography sessions in St. Augustine, Jacksonville Beach, Palm Coast, Ponte Vedra, Flagler Beach and surrounding Northeast Florida communities. Whether you’re visiting the area on vacation, staying at a local resort or condo, or simply want updated family portraits by the ocean, my goal is to make the process simple, quick, and enjoyable.

With years of experience photographing families of all sizes, I know how to keep sessions moving while still capturing natural smiles, genuine laughs, and real moments between the people you love most. No stiff posing, no awkward pressure, and no long, drawn-out photo session that wears everyone out.

Beach family photo sessions are perfect for vacation memories, annual family portraits, extended family trips, couples, grandparents, kids, and anyone who wants beautiful, natural photos in a relaxed coastal setting. Sessions are designed to feel easy and comfortable, with simple direction so you know what to do without feeling overly posed.

Simple Tips for a Smoother Family Photo Session

A little preparation can make your family photo session feel much easier and help us create cleaner, more natural-looking photographs.

Before the session begins, empty your pockets of phones, keys, wallets, sunglasses, and other bulky items. Bring a small bag where everyone can place their belongings during the session. The bag can stay nearby while we photograph, and it prevents visible outlines, bulges, or objects from distracting from your clothing.

For families with young children, consider bringing a favorite toy, stuffed animal, or another small item that reliably gets their attention. Young children may not always look toward the camera on command, so having something familiar nearby can be very helpful.

During group photographs, I usually ask everyone to relax and wait to smile until I give the cue. Holding a smile while we wait for the wind to settle, adjust a pose, or get a child’s attention can quickly make expressions look tired or forced. I will let everyone know exactly when it is time to look toward the camera and smile.

It is also important for the adults to keep looking toward the camera rather than looking down to check whether the children are smiling. The moment you look away may be the exact moment the child gives us the perfect expression. Keep your attention on me, and I will let you know if I need help adjusting, encouraging, or redirecting a younger child.

Most importantly, do not worry if everything does not go perfectly. Children move, the wind changes, and real family moments happen. I will guide you throughout the session and help everyone look comfortable, connected, and natural.

Quick Summery of What to Wear and What not to Wear for Family Photos on the Beach.

For a beach family photography session, DO THIS:

Choose outfits that coordinate without matching exactly. Start with two to four colors, including neutral shades such as cream, beige, tan, or soft gray, then add muted accents like sage, dusty blue, olive, rust, or soft pink.
Use breathable fabrics such as linen, cotton, and gauze to stay comfortable in Northeast Florida heat, humidity, and wind. Texture, light layers, and subtle patterns can add visual interest without making the group look busy.
Most importantly, choose clothing that fits well, allows natural movement, and still feels like your family. Comfort and confidence will matter more than following every wardrobe suggestion.

For a beach Family Photo Session, DON’T DO THIS:

Avoid large logos, neon colors, shiny fabrics, tiny busy patterns, uncomfortable clothing, and shoes that are difficult to wear in sand. White can work well, but identical white shirts and khaki pants may look overly uniform.
